Overview

What this tool does

A currency converter turns an amount in one currency into the equivalent in another using today's exchange rate. This converter uses Frankfurter, a free public API backed by the European Central Bank's official daily reference rates. 31 currencies are supported (USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, AUD, CAD, CNY, INR, plus most of the major Asian, European, and Latin American currencies). Pick an amount and two currencies, see the converted value, the rate both ways, and the date the ECB published the rate. Useful for travel budgeting, freelance pricing across borders, comparing salary offers, or just checking what something costs in your home currency. No signup, no API key, no daily cap.

How to

Use it in 3 steps

  1. Enter the amount in the first field.
  2. Pick the source currency in the 'From' dropdown and the target currency in 'To'.
  3. The converted value appears on the right within a fraction of a second.
  4. Use the swap arrow between the two columns to flip direction quickly.
  5. Copy the result to your clipboard with the Copy button.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

How current are the rates?

Frankfurter publishes the European Central Bank's daily reference rates. ECB updates them around 16:00 Central European Time on weekdays. Weekends and holidays serve the most recent weekday rate. The date shown under the result tells you exactly which day's rate you're looking at.

Why might my bank charge me a different rate?

ECB reference rates are wholesale interbank rates. When you exchange money at a bank, airport kiosk, credit card, or money-transfer service, they typically add a markup (1-5%) plus sometimes a flat fee. Use this tool as the 'fair' baseline; expect to pay slightly more in practice.

Is anything sent to a server?

Only the currency codes and amount go to Frankfurter (a free public API). No personal data, no IP-derived location, no analytics on top of theirs. We don't proxy the request through any server of ours.

What currencies are not in the list?

ECB's reference set covers 31 major currencies. Some emerging-market currencies (Pakistani rupee, Egyptian pound, Vietnamese dong, etc.) aren't published by the ECB. For those, use a service that aggregates multiple central banks; we'd need a paid API.

Can I convert historical rates (e.g. 'what was 100 USD in EUR on Jan 1 2020')?

Frankfurter supports historical lookup; this tool doesn't expose the date picker yet. Reach out if you'd find it useful and we can add it.

Crypto?

Not yet. ECB doesn't publish crypto reference rates. If you want BTC / ETH / etc., we can add CoinGecko's free API in a separate tool.
