Overview

What this tool does

Convert your own video and audio files without uploading them anywhere. The Media Converter runs entirely in your browser: change a video to MP4 or WebM, turn a clip into an animated GIF, pull the audio out of a video as MP3 or WAV, or convert between audio formats like MP3, WAV, M4A, and OGG. You can also downscale a video to 1080p, 720p, or 480p to shrink the file. Because everything happens on your device, your files never leave your computer, there is no watermark, no signup, and no daily limit. This is a converter for files you already have, not a downloader for third-party sites like YouTube.

How to

Use it in 3 steps

  1. Upload a video or audio file. It stays on your device: nothing is sent to a server.
  2. Pick what to convert it to: a video format, an animated GIF, or audio only. For GIFs, set the frame rate and width; for video, optionally downscale the resolution.
  3. Click Convert. The first conversion loads the engine once, then it processes locally with a progress bar.
  4. Download the result. It is a clean file with no watermark, ready to use anywhere.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The entire conversion runs in your browser with WebAssembly. Your file never leaves your device, which is why it is private and free.

Can I download videos from YouTube or other sites?

No. This tool converts files you already have on your device. It does not download from YouTube or other platforms, which would violate their terms and copyright.

Why is the first conversion a little slower?

The first run downloads the conversion engine once (about 30MB) and caches it. After that, conversions start quickly. Re-encoding long or high-resolution videos in the browser can still take a while.

Is there a watermark or a file size limit?

No watermark. Files up to 500MB are supported. Very large or long videos may be slow to re-encode because it all runs on your device.
